Automated bidding amplifies a tracking error, it does not absorb it
Smart Bidding will not correct a measurement mistake. It will act on it faster and with more of your money. Here is how to see what the system actually sees.
There is a new kind of enquiry that a lot of companies are starting to see. The prospect already knows the terminology. They know the possible solutions. They arrive with objections nobody put to them. And they have no idea where they heard about you.
They will not find out either. They were talking to an assistant, not to a website.
Classic measurement is built on clicks. With no click, the visit arrives either as direct or from a referrer that explains nothing about what came before. The buyer did eighty percent of the research, and on your side that part leaves no trace.
This has two visible consequences. One is that branded searches grow without you doing anything. The other is that first calls get shorter and go deeper.
Neither is a problem. But if you allocate budget from your attribution report, you will underfund exactly the stage that prepared the decision.
Ask them. The oldest method and still the best. Put one field on the form: how did you hear about me. It will not be complete, but it shows you the order of magnitude, and no platform can tell you this on your behalf.
Treat branded search volume as a signal. If it grows while you did not spend more, someone is talking about you somewhere. That is not vanity, it is a leading indicator.
Do not cut what cannot be attributed. The most comfortable mistake is to invest only in what shows up cleanly in the report. Large brands learned this decades ago. It is simply coming back in a new form.
Write content a machine can repeat. If your material is concrete and checkable, it is quotable. If it is atmosphere, it is not.
Attribution did not break. A stage of the buying journey moved somewhere without a meter on it. The right answer is not to hunt for a better attribution model. It is to ask people, and to look at total revenue rather than only the attributable slice.

If the system only sees that a form arrived, it will bring you forms. Here is how to give it back the information about which ones became business.
Automation is good at volume and speed. It is bad at judgement. A simple split that decides what you should let go of.
